Now, in regard to the remembrance of Allah, Sayyiduna ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, would always go above and beyond in the service of Allah and His Messenger, a service that falls within the realm of spiritual excellence [Ihsan].
Allah Says, “Is the reward for excellence anything other than more excellence itself?”
“So Pure is Allah, the most excellent of creators [Ahsanul’ Khaaliqin].”
It is as narrated in the Siyar where Imam Malik’s mother [Sayyidah] Aliyah told her son, “My son, I am commanding you to sit with the learned, however when you do, please look at their good character (and learn from it) before you take from their knowledge.”
She was sending him upon the journey towards Ihsan, and whom she was speaking of was Imam Rabiatur’ Ra’i and he was of the Muhsinin of the time. He taught within the beloved Masjid of the Prophet in Madinah, Sall’Allahu Alayhi wa Ala Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Sallam.
The Messenger of Allah, Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon his, his family and companions, also beautifully explains the reality of spiritual excellence when he said, “Spiritual excellence [Ihsan] is to worship Almighty Allah as though you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then (know) indeed He sees you.”
Sayyiduna ‘Ali sat with the Messenger of Allah and gained this spiritual excellence [Ihsan] directly from the Prophet in many ways. For example…….
